New Australian Casino For Brisbane

A new Australian Casino complex is set to land in Brisbane as Echo Entertainment (current owners of the historic Australian Casino Treasury Casino, also in Brisbane) are in the running to build the new resort.

This news comes just days after Tony Fung announced his plans for an AUS$8 billion Australian Casino and hotel complex just north of Cairns. Now Brisbane will be getting its own brand new Casino complex with an estimated completion date set for 2019.

Although Echo Entertainment are currently thought to be ahead in the pitches to run Brisbane’s new Australian Casino, James Packer’s Crown Resorts Limited group is also in the running. Whilst Echo Entertainment operates the only other land-based Casino in Brisbane right now, James Packer and Crown Resorts Limited are very established in the Australian Casino business.

Echo Entertainment’s Treasury Casino currently stands as the prime entertainment destination in Brisbane, boasting over 1,500 Pokies and nearly 100 Casino game tables.

An announcement was made by Jeff Seeney, Queensland Deputy Premier this week in which he pointed out the benefits of adding a new Australian Casino complex to Brisbane. He commented, “I think it will be the most exciting development to have happened in Brisbane since the South Bank was developed following Expo ’88”.

Any new Casino in Queensland, Australia will need to agree to preserving certain colonial government buildings as part of the redevelopment. These include buildings such as the heritage buildings in Queens Wharf Road and the Immigration Building. The new Australian Casino would also only be allowed as part of a larger entertainment complex.

“The new Australian Casinos are not – and I repeat are not – standalone Casinos of the like that you are familiar with,” stated Mr Seeney. “They are part of a significantly large resort development that is a destination attraction in their own right and can be competitive in the international tourism market.”
